foremost worldly stage ［世第一法・世第一法位］ ( sedaiippō or sedaiippō-i): Also, stage of the foremost worldly good root. The fourth of the four good roots, which are stages of Hinayana practice. In this stage, one obtains the highest of the four good roots, though these are still tainted by outflows, or earthly desires; hence the name “foremost worldly stage.” One who has reached this stage will in time enter the way of insight, or the first of the three ways, and become a sage. The third and last of the three ways is the way of the arhat. See also four good roots; three stages of worthiness.
